10 not-to-be-missed activities on your Courchevel ski holiday

Don’t miss these 10 top tips for making your Courchevel holiday not just good, but great…

If you’re new to skiing the Courchevel Valley then make time to include these bucket-list activities during your week’s stay in one of our chalets.

If you’re a Courchevel or La Tania regular then we’re sure you’ve already ticked these off! Should we have added any more? Let us know in the comments section!

  • La Folie DouceLa Folie Douce Meribel

If apres-ski is your thing, then the infamous Folie Douce simply has to be on your hit list. Whilst not strictly in Courchevel, it’s easy to party in your ski boots on the Folie terrace in Meribel, then head back to the Courchevel Valley in time for the last lifts back to the chalet. Famed for the incredible atmosphere, fab music and outrageous costumes, it’s an experience not to be missed whilst in the Three Valleys.

  • Beautiful ChapeletsCourchevel-Skiing

If you’re staying in one of our chalets in Courchevel or Le Praz, then skiing over to Courchevel Moriond might not be high on your hit-list. But spend a morning or afternoon heading eastwards and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the wide pistes and cruisey blues. Don’t miss the red piste Chapelets while you’re in the area, it twists and turns among the trees and is great for an introduction to gentle off-piste. The speedy 6-seater chair whisks you back up to ski it all over again! (And Le Bel Air is a lovely spot for a coffee or vin chaud)

  • From top to bottom!Courchevel-Ski-Holidays

After a day or two warming up the legs, you can make a descent of 1400m from the top of La Saulire (2700m) all the way down to Le Praz (1300m) (all the better if you are staying in Chalet Dulcis Casu!) Take the famous wide red Combe de la Saulire – or if you’re feeling brave, the infamous Grand Couloir – then down into Courchevel 1850 via the rolling Verdons. Head to the left of the gondola building and under a bridge, then keep left towards Plantrey and take the red Brigues all the way into the picturesque village of Le Praz for a vin chaud!

  • Chilling out on Courchneige terraceRelaxing in the sunshine

It’s not all work, work, work on a ski holiday! If you’re looking for a place to relax with a drink or lunch on a sunny day, then the Courchneige should be on your list. Take a seat on a deckchair or at one of the tables in the sunshine and enjoy a well-priced drink whilst taking in the views and the action on the slopes. The lunch options are great too: the buffet starter includes salmon and seafood, and it’s nearly impossible to decide between the yummy desserts. Ask our Concierge to reserve you a table in advance, as it’s the place to be on a sunny day! (Although if the weather’s not on your side, the fireside seat in the bar is a fab place to warm up).

  • On top of the world: La SaulireSkiing-holidays-la-tania

Whether you’re on skis or on foot, don’t miss an opportunity to see the incredible scenery from the highest point in resort. From 1850, take Verdons bubble lift then the huge cable car up to La Saulire at 2700m; it’s a steep ride but well worth it for the stunning panoramas on offer. If you look north, you’ll see Mont Blanc (though we should really say Monte Bianco as you’re looking at the Italian side!) Whilst you’re riding up the cable car, a little fact: in 2015, the lucky winners of a competition dined and spent the night inside!

  • Vin Chaud in the Bouc Blanchot-chocolate-credit-unsplash

If it’s good enough for William and Kate, it’s certainly good enough for us! The royal couple were spotted at La Tania’s Bouc Blanc restaurant in 2015 and we’re really not surprised: The sunny terrace is a great place to enjoy a civilised après drink and watch the world go by! Renowned locally for serving a cracking vin chaud or a hearty mug of chocolat chaud, it’s a great stop-off before you ski the last run into La Tania back to one of our boutique chalets for a dip in the hot tub.

  • Paragliding from LozeParagliding Courchevel Tourist Office

Flying through the air above the pristine white mountains is a truly breathtaking experience. It sounds terrifying should you be doing it alone, but in a tandem with a qualified ‘parapente’ pilot at the helm, it’s relaxing and exhilarating all at once. You’ll take off from Col de la Loze and skim the peaks of La Saulire, then float gently over the forests of Meribel and La Tania, landing near the village of Courchevel Le Praz.

  • Verdons Family ParkCourchevel Family Park

You don’t have to have a family to head here, although children absolutely adore skiing over the lumps and bumps. There are several large kickers for more experienced skiers and boarders, as well as a ski cross which is suitable for intermediates. After having skied through the Family Park, you’ll find the Big Air Bag: ski or board down a slope and try your best trick, landing safely on an enormous cushion of air. Another option for those with less bravado is trying it out whilst sitting in a huge inner tube. Definitely one for the bucket list!

  • Hidden valleys: try snowshoeing!Courchevel

If you fancy a break from the slopes, why not hire some snow shoes for the day and appreciate the tranquil forests on foot: follow the paths around La Tania and see a side to Courchevel that not many people get to experience. You’ll see tracks from the hares, foxes and deer whose home is among the snowy forests, and enjoy a quieter pace to your day (whilst still working up enough hunger for your afternoon tea back at the chalet!) Our concierge can book a snowshoe guide if required, who will take you off the beaten track for a real adventure.

  • Sledging – 300m descentCourchevel 1850 Toboggan Run

If you thought sledging was just for kids, think again! Courchevel has a special toboggan run which descends 300m from Courchevel 1850 down to Courchevel Village (1550m). The track is suitable for children accompanied by an adult, but grown-ups can race down the track at top speed around the hairpin bends. It’s fantastic fun in a group and you can do as many runs as you want as the gondola takes you straight back to the top again. Hire a toboggan in 1550 and afterwards get the bus back to La Tania: ask your host or concierge for a timetable.
