Restaurants in Courchevel Le Praz

The lowdown on Le Praz’s restaurants and bars…

Our guests are spoilt for choice for restaurants on chalet night off when staying with us in Chalet Dulcis Casu, our new catered ski chalet in Courchevel Le Praz…

With candlelit tables, extensive wine lists and Michelin stars, you’re sure to find something that tantalises your tastebuds in this atmospheric alpine village. Starting with the Bistrot which is less than a minute from Dulcis Casu, here’s our review of Le Praz restaurants:

Le Bistrot Du Praz
This renowned Courchevel restaurant has long-specialised in foie gras, but those on more of a budget can still get a delicious meal by choosing from the specials menu which features local and French dishes, cooked to perfection by the friendly chef who often comes to chat to diners. Our personal favourite is the ‘Croustillant de Beaufort’ crispy outside and oozing warm cheese, it’s naughty but delicious! The interior has a cosy, intimate atmosphere and there’s also a beautifully decorated terrace which is a gorgeous spot to enjoy a sunny lunch. There’s a serious wine list with a large selection from all over France. (And to top it off, you’re only a few steps away from home when you stay in Chalet Dulcis Casu!)

L’Azimut
Unpretentious and smartly but simply decorated, this Michelin-star restaurant has a good selection of menus ranging upwards of €35 at lunchtime. Dishes such as pan-fried foie gras with passion fruit foam or supreme of turbot with champagne sauce are on offer, and are interspersed with little extras between courses that invoke ‘ooh’s and ‘mmm’s from diners: avocado ice-cream, beaufort cheese fries, cèpe velouté, grapefruit sorbet… Yum! A large leather-bound wine list gives some big name options but there are interesting bottles at the lower end too. The service on our last visit was perfect – attentive, discreetly friendly and very knowledgeable. Great value for a treat lunch or a celebratory evening meal.

La Table de Mon Grand-Père
This sizeable restaurant is a smart venue for an evening meal, with classic French and Savoyarde specialities as well as seafood and salads. There’s an extensive wine list representing all the French regions. The setting inside is sophisticated, with stone and wood cladding and – the deal-breaker! – lovely toilets with L’Occitane handwash. The large terrace area is ideal for lunch and a glass of rosé in the sunshine, and at après-ski you’ll find it’s popular for a vin chaud or two, being in a great location in the heart of the village with plenty of people-watching to be done. The secret hideout ‘Norby’s’ on the lower ground floor is a cosy spot to sup a hot chocolate on chilly afternoons.

Au Burger d’à Côté
Just opposite La Table de Mon Grand-Père is this upmarket burger restaurant owned by the same family. With posh burgers including salmon, chicken, avocado and foie gras served in a rustic chic setting, it’s a popular spot for those with serious hunger pangs. The chips are also really good! There aren’t many tables so do ask us if you’d like to book a table in advance for lunchtime or on chalet night off.

Le Cave des Lys
A relaxed and friendly vibe awaits you in this vaulted wine bar, which has bags of atmosphere and a welcoming buzz of chatter every evening after the lifts shut. A large selection of wines by the glass as well as well-priced bottles is accompanied by sharing platters of local cheeses and meats as well as other exciting foodie treats, such as a beautiful baked reblochon, tasty skewers flame-grilled in front of you or a platter of melt-in-the-mouth pata negra ham. Pick up some nibbles to take away from the delicatessen and enjoy a packed lunch of kings the following day!

L’Escorchevel
As well as being a live music venue and bar, this pizzeria is a popular spot with locals for the sharing platters, tex mex, burgers and a long list of pizzas including the local favourite ‘Savoyarde’ pizza with double-carbs: great for hungry skiers! Open from 3-11pm every day.
